It looks set to be a 21st birthday celebration like no other and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Festival Manchester Pride have officially released the Big Weekend passes to the event.
The ticket launch, hosted by Taurus Bar on Canal Street, featured members of the Lesbian and Gay Foundation, as well as George House Trust, a charity dedicated to helping those with HIV/Aids. In true Pride style, promo boys strolled around in 'Loud&Proud' tees handing out information on the event, marked by Festival Director Jackie Crozier's opening speech, which touchingly emphasized the importance of community.
Many may not remember that Manchester Pride actually started out as a simple bring and buy stall outside The Rembrandt Pub and has now grown into a world respected festival, as well as arguably the most popular Pride event in the UK. Perhaps this is why it is so important to remember the local community and the people who are what Pride is about and how it began.
The ten-day Festival itself is comprised of four parts-a week long Pride Fringe, The Pride Parade, a Candlelit Vigil to remember those who have passed on from HIV/Aids and, of course, The Big Weekend, featuring world-class acts right accross the fields of film, theatre, art and music. Artist's for the 2011 event are to be announced over the coming months but, as it's the Festival's 21st birthday, expect nothing short of fabulous!
A Big Weekend wristband is essential to access the celebrations, tickets are now on sale at an early-bird price of £15 until July 1st, when they will be available for £20. Visit manchesterpride.com or any venue around Manchester City Centre to pick yours up and show your support, we already have ours!
See you there!
